Afl-Cio's Trumka Critical of Corbett's Call for Cutting Pay

HARRISBURG -- It's "not fair" for Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Corbett to ask for pay cuts and salary freezes for public employees when the state has $500 million in unanticipated revenue, AFL-CIO President Rich Trumka said Monday.

But Trumka said Corbett's approach in dealing with unions is a "step up" from some other Republican-controlled states in that he is not trying to dismantle collective bargaining for public employees. That was a reference to Wisconsin, where the Legislature and GOP Gov. Scott Walker pushed through a bill to ban most collective bargaining rights for most state employees.
