Summary
I am writing in opposition to the column "Voter ID proposal mobilizes partisans" (June 10 and TribLIVE.com). Eric Heyl, the author of the column, mistakenly compared a right afforded by the U.S. Constitution with someone purchasing a sweatshirt.
The Constitution does not give us the right to have and use a credit card, and as such, department stores may require of consumers whatever restrictive methods they wish for using their cards. However, requiring legal residents to jump through hoops in order to participate in a process guaranteed them by the U.S. Constitution is restrictive and limits their rights. In addition, implementing this bill will cost the state nearly $10 million at a time when Pennsylvania can least afford it.See the full content of this document
