Appeals Court Says Judge in Pittsburgh Was Out of Bounds

A federal judge in Pittsburgh erred last year when he placed a Georgia man on supervised release for life and ordered him to never again own pornography after shacking up with a Canonsburg teenager he met online, an appeals court ruled this week.

In November, U.S. District Judge Arthur Schwab sentenced Derrick Kenrick, 50, of Rome, Ga., to 46 months in prison for crossing state lines with the intent to engage in sexual conduct with a minor. The judge then heaped on a number of other restrictions, including the lengthy supervised release and pornography prohibition, as well as ordering mandatory mental counseling.
