'Barber of Seville' Kicks Off Pittsburgh Opera Season

Summary


Opera director Scott Parry says he doesn't actually do anything. It's hyperbole, of course, even though he won't be seen or heard by the audiences at Pittsburgh Opera's upcoming production of "The Barber of Seville" until after the show is over, at final curtain bows.

But Parry must weld the cast together in a coherent interpretation of the story, and do so with performers with widely differing experience. The baritone singing the title role is doing it for the first time. Kevin Glavin has done his role Basilio in 40 different productions, which makes his openness to new ideas especially admirable.
