A Marine who received a rare hand transplant last year at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center has healed so well that he's planning to train as an automotive mechanic.

Josh Maloney, 26, of Bethel Park, endured 11-hour transplant surgery in March 2009 and more than a year of grueling physical therapy sessions to learn to use the right hand donated by an 18- year-old West Virginia man who died.
