Birmingham Bridge Permanent Fix Underway

Summary


PennDOT said today it is replacing the faulty bearings that caused the Birmingham Bridge to partially collapse in February.

The faulty parts, called rocker bearings, will be replaced with a new mechanism that allows the bridge to shift with changes in temperature but will require work through the year and at a total cost of more than $7 million.
