Ex-Blairsville Chief Gets $100,000 to Settle

Summary


Details of last week's settlement agreement between Blairsville and its former police chief, Donald Hess, indicate Hess and his attorney together are to be paid $100,000 to bring to an end Hess' civil suit over his June 16 dismissal by borough council.

In the suit filed in U.S. District Court, Hess had sought monetary damages, reinstatement, back wages and attorney fees and costs. He alleged his dismissal was an act of retaliation resulting from his "good faith report" to Indiana County's district attorney and state police of "possible waste and/or wrongdoing by Blairsville Borough officials" concerning the nonprofit Blairsville Improvement Group, or BIG.
