BRADENTON, Fla. - Pirates manager Jim Tracy considered rewarding starter Ian Snell for his 14-win season in 2006 by having the right- hander start on Opening Day.

But that would have meant going with left-handers Zach Duke, Paul Maholm and Tom Gorzelanny the next three games, and Tracy didn't want to line up the starting rotation that way.
