Bucs' Karstens Tentative Starter for Tonight

Summary

Right-hander Jeff Karstens remains tentative as the starter in tonight's 7:05 game with the St. Louis Cardinals after having a procedure on an abscess tooth. Karstens, who has lost five in a row since his near-perfect game in Arizona, had a noticeably swollen left cheek but said he was feeling better. If Karstens can't start, Ian Snell, scheduled to start Sunday, will move up one day in the six-man rotation.

When Pirates pitcher Daniel McCutchen arrived in Pittsburgh on Friday to meet his future teammates and see PNC Park, it wasn't quite like his first introduction to a major-league clubhouse. McCutchen took place in a similar informal call-up last year while with the New York Yankees. The first person he saw in the clubhouse was Yogi Berra. Then Goose Gossage and Reggie Jackson. The first player he met in the Pirates clubhouse was former Triple-A teammate Luis Cruz. "It was still very exciting to walk in here," McCutchen said.
