Don H. Barden, the pioneering Detroit entrepreneur who first envisioned the casino that now sits on Pittsburgh's North Shore, died Thursday morning of complications from lung cancer. He was 67.
Born in Inkster, Mich., the ninth of 13 children, Barden turned a $500 investment in a record store in 1965 into a corporate empire whose companies and affiliates took in $400 million in revenue last year.
