Summary
As an ex-motorcycle racer and a current street rider, I understand Big Ben Roethlisberger's personal decision to not wear a helmet ("Unlucky No. 7," June 13 and PghTrib.com).
Full-faced helmets, which would have been the only type to help with the injuries Ben sustained, could have caused a worse injury. His face actually may have acted as a cushion when he impacted the windshield, whereas the helmet would not have given and the impact could have occurred to his neck.
