Contractor Looking at 911 Shutdown

The private contractor Allegheny County Controller Mark Patrick Flaherty said was partially responsible for a 911 system shutdown in October has not fired the technician who might have triggered the massive computer failure.

A spokeswoman for Kansas-based Embarq said Friday the company is conducting its own investigation of the incident. In the meantime, the technician who officials said triggered the shut-down because he failed to unblock 10,000 phone numbers during a July test remains employed.
