Every year around this time, The Dispatch asks seven area schools to each select two nominees, one male and one female, for Student of the Year honors, based on academic excellence, extracurricular activities and outstanding community service. Of those students, one exemplary candidate is chosen as The Dispatch Student of the Year and is awarded a $500 scholarship.
