There is no clearer evidence that we have become a society of self-absorbed fools than the fact that legislation is necessary to ensure that motorists do not engage in text messaging.
Given what one witnesses on today's roads, it is miraculous that there are not more accidents in which individuals are killed and maimed. The driver who thinks only of himself or herself is permitted to engage in any combination of the following activities: smoking, eating, drinking, reading, grooming, engaging in nonemergency telephone and text-message exchanges and astonishingly, in my neighborhood of otherwise sensible and rational people, driving with a dog either on one's lap or unrestrained to jump throughout the vehicle.
