Drive-by Truckers Hoping Public Gets Up to Speed

The Drive-By Truckers recorded 25 songs in 25 days for their latest album, "The Big To-Do." But it wasn't until the tracks were winnowed down to 13 that a theme emerged.

"I didn't notice that until we were done with it," admits guitarist and vocalist Mike Cooley, who will perform with the band Tuesday at Mr. Small's Theatre in Millvale. "It was obvious, but until it was pretty much done and I went through it from start to finish that I realized it had those two bookends (the songs 'Daddy Learned to Fly' and 'Eyes Like Glue') about fatherhood."
