Equitable Gas Customers Facing 7.2 Percent Increase

Summary

Equitable Gas Co. customers will pay about 7.2 percent more for natural gas under a rate hike settlement the state Public Utility Commission approved this morning.

The North Shore-based utility originally sought a 10 percent increse in its delivery rate, which hadn't changed in 11 years. The PUC's decision means an average residential customer who uses 7.3 thousand cubic feet, or mcf, of natural gas each month will pay $149.26, up from $138.33.
