An Erie County hospice-care aide faces a preliminary hearing July 31 on charges she stole more than $12,000 from a dying cancer patient.

State police say Carol Ann Albertson, 64, stole the money by writing checks to herself from the bank accounts of the patient and his wife. They say she cashed 17 checks totaling $12,800 from April 24 to July 10.
