Excela Claims Loss of $10m for Treating Mentally Ill

Excela Health lost more than $10 million during the past decade treating the mentally ill through its outpatient programs and that was the main reason why the system decided to eliminate some of those services, a hospital official said Monday.

It is difficult to estimate how many patients will be affected by last week's decision to shift some outpatient services from Excela to community-based organizations, said Martin Lang, vice president for support services at Excela Health Latrobe Hospital. Lang is responsible for the health system's behavioral health services.
