Pittsburgh schools chief Linda Lane wants central office departments to cut their spending in half, and the board president anticipates furloughing teachers in light of the district's projected $68 million budget deficit for 2012.

Superintendent Linda Lane said Wednesday that the district could save $10 million to $12 million by cutting central office spending and staff. She couldn't say how many staff positions could be eliminated until the district is farther along in the budgeting process.
