Summary


When Luke Ravenstahl became mayor of Pittsburgh last year upon the death of Bob O'Connor, people of goodwill throughout the region were rooting for him. The young man, 26 at the time, handled that difficult transition with grace. And the ensuing national publicity was a welcome balm to a city of shaken but still chauvinistic citizens.

Pittsburgh is a town that loves nothing more than seeing that guy who was riding the bench called into the game unexpectedly -- only to lead the team to victory. Tommy Maddox brought his share of thrills to Steelers fans and Charlie Batch still gets those Terrible Towels flying when called into action.
