When Hans Tachau joined the Army Medical Corps, he was following in the footsteps of his father, who proudly served his adopted country.

His father, Dr. Hans A. Tachau, left Germany in 1938 with his wife and son because of his disapproval of the Nazi regime. He served aboard a combat hospital ship in the South Pacific during World War II.
