Sergei Gonchar didn't lose the affection of Penguins fans when he signed with Ottawa on July 1. In his first game against his old team, Gonchar received a standing ovation from the Consol Energy Center crowd following a first-period video showcasing highlights from his five years with the Penguins. Gonchar and another former Penguins star, Alex Kovalev, assisted on Daniel Alfredsson goal.
