A Penn Hills man's quest to have his great uncle correctly identified at the National Baseball Hall of Fame has come to fruition: The museum will recast the plaque of Negro Leagues pioneer John Preston "Pete" Hill in an Oct. 12 ceremony in Cooperstown, N.Y.

Hill was inducted posthumously in 2006 as part of a special election to include 17 Negro Leagues stars. But the former Homewood resident was mistakenly identified as Joseph Preston Hill and a native of Pittsburgh. Research by historian and writer Zann Nelson, who authored a three-part series on Hill for the Culpeper Star- Exponent, revealed he was born in Virginia.
