'High-Hazard' Dams Could Face Fines

Summary


Outdated emergency plans for 46 "high-hazard" dams statewide make it harder for emergency responders to protect lives and property downstream from those dams, a state official said Wednesday.

Tom Rathbun, spokesman for the state Department of Environmental Protection, said the agency could ultimately order a noncompliant dam breached so that police and fire officials don't have to worry when a heavy storm hits their area.
