Highmark Inc.'s United Concordia Companies Inc. has requested a hearing before the U.S. Court of Federal Claims on its battle to overturn a $3.1 billion contract that the Defense Department granted Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. to manage dental benefits for military families,

Ralph White, a Government Accountability Office assistant general counsel for procurement contracts, said on Tuesday. The GAO on April 27 upheld the Defense Department's decision in January granting Metropolitan Life the contract over United Concordia's $3.2 billion bid. Highmark had protested the Defense Department's ruling in favor of Metropolitan Life.
