With a bulldozer about to crush a unique example of neoclassical architecture in the North Side, Michael Coleman ambushed the building's owner with a bid to win historic protection for it.

"If you found a Warhol in your basement, would you throw it in the trash?" said Coleman, president of the Allegheny City Society, a historic preservation group. "We found out that this is essentially the equivalent, because we found out that this was a Burnham design."
