Hose Leak Blamed for River's Sheen Near Millvale

An oily sheen in the Allegheny River near the 40th Street Bridge was caused by a leaking hydraulic hose on equipment being used to clear Girty's Run in Millvale, environmental officials said Friday.

The Army Corps of Engineers contracted Ohio-based Tab Construction to clear debris from the stream and repair a wall behind the Boys' Club in Millvale. The material handler workers were using malfunctioned while in Girty's Run, and the oil appeared on the water Thursday.
