Doctors and other staff members at Jefferson Regional Medical Center know that the sooner a stroke victim is treated, the less likely long-term medical problems occur. That's why the hospital recently opened a 10-bed Stroke Care Center.
"The purpose of the center is to really treat and coordinate care for patients who have strokes," explained Louise Urban, vice president of patient care services at Jefferson Regional Medical Center.
