Former Judge Found Guilty in Fraud, Money Laundering Case

Summary


A federal jury decided Wednesday a former state Superior Court judge lied about being injured in a low-speed car accident in order to collect hundreds of thousands of dollars from insurance companies.

Michael T. Joyce, 59, of Erie was found guilty of two counts of mail fraud and six counts of money laundering. The jury deliberated for nearly two days after a four-week trial in U.S. District Court, Downtown. Sentencing is scheduled March 10 before Senior U.S. District Judge Maurice B. Cohill.
