Summary


An observation: Pittsburgh Mayor Luke Ravenstahl won election Tuesday to a full four-year term after serving two shorter, interim terms following the 2006 death of Bob O'Connor. He handily defeated two independent challengers. But the sad thing is that Hizzoner received just more than 27,000 votes. Mr. Ravenstahl will claim a mandate of the minority. It's a horribly sad commentary on the state of civic engagement in Pittsburgh.

Laurel: To Dok Harris. The young political upstart surprised many by placing second in Pittsburgh's mayoral race. And his more than 12,600 votes suggest he has something that might actually be considered a political base. We trust Mr. Harris is encouraged by his showing. And as we editorialized Friday last, we look forward to him seeking some seasoning by running for Pittsburgh City Council -- as the Republican he once was.
