Local activists yesterday celebrated the 90th anniversary of women's earning the right to vote dressed in poodle skirts, hippie garb, flapper dresses and costumes dating to the beginning of the suffrage movement.
"Ninety years ago, the men who opposed women's suffrage argued that women prefer rest and quietude to political participation," said Allyson Lowe, chair of the political science department at Carlow University.
