Legislator Seeks Reassessment Efficiency

The next attempt to reform the state's real estate assessment system could start this month with legislation in the state House, Rep. Jesse White said in a Washington County courtroom on Thursday.

White, D-Cecil, testified for the county, which was called to a status conference in Common Pleas Court about its stalled effort to reassess the property values used to determine how much tax homeowners pay. County officials say they don't want to start a reassessment if state laws are about to change, and President Judge Debbie O'Dell Seneca gave no further orders, letting the delay stand.
