The Saint Louis Art Museum will host "Action/Abstraction: Pollock, de Kooning and American Art, 1940-1976," beginning Oct. 19. The show is described as the first major U.S. exhibition in 20 years to re-examine Abstract Expressionism and the movements that followed. The exhibit comes to St. Louis after several months at the Jewish Museum in New York. It will travel to the Albright-Knox Art Gallery in Buffalo, N.Y., after it closes in St. Louis in January.
The show includes masterpieces by Jackson Pollock, Willem de Kooning, Helen Frankenthaler, Arshile Gorky, Philip Guston, Hans Hofmann, Jasper Johns, Lee Krasner, Frank Stella and others. Admission to the rest of the museum is free but this exhibit will be ticketed at $6; $5 for students and senior citizens; $4 for ages 6 to 12; free for age 6 and younger, and free on Fridays.
