After quietly toiling for nearly five years on an environmental study, the designers of a proposed high-tech, magnetically levitating train from Pittsburgh International Airport to Downtown, Monroeville and Greensburg are seeking more than a quarter of the federal stimulus money dedicated to high-speed rail across the country.
Last week, the Pennsylvania High-Speed Maglev Project and PennDOT submitted a preliminary application for $2.3 billion to help design and build the train system, starting with the segment between the airport and Downtown.
