ERIE -- The York County lawyer who owns the Peninsula Motel owes more than $18,000 in back taxes, according to county records. The bill was last paid in 2008.

The motel has been closed for years. It is not clear what Dusan Bratic intended to do with the property -- he did not return a call for comment -- but it surely wasn't this. Several of the guest-room doors no longer have knobs. Several are no longer doors at all: Every opening on the motel's north wall has been covered with a board.
