Norwin's Stewartsville Cost Put at $16m Tops

Norwin School District officials presented a project history and justification for the construction of a new Stewartsville Elementary School -- at a cost not to exceed $16 million -- Monday night during a special Act 34 meeting that attracted no members of the general public.

Act 34, established in 1973, requires school boards to authorize a maximum construction cost and building cost to be financed by the district. It also requires districts to have a public hearing for new or substantial additions to an existing building at least 30 days before the district submits construction cost estimates to the state Department of Education.
