Summary


* Steelers kicker Jeff Reed got back in the groove against Carolina. In the first quarter, Reed connected from 40 yards out. Four minutes before halftime, he made a 27-yarder to make it 6-0. A week ago against Philadelphia, Reed failed on field-goal attempts of 50 and 47 yards.

* Mike Barr did not gain ground in his battle to unseat veteran punter Chris Gardocki. Gardocki handled the bulk of the punts and was back in his usual role as Reed's holder. One of Reed's misses against Philly came on a shaky spot by Barr.
