Bats are in trouble.

A mysterious fungal disease known as white-nose syndrome, first discovered four years ago at a site in New York, has since spread to 18 states and three Canadian provinces. It's killed countless bats, invading their skin through the pores, eating live cells and causing death through what is thought to be dehydration and starvation.
