Pennsylvania to Ship 2,000 Inmates to Other States

Pennsylvania will ship 2,000 inmates to state prisons in Michigan and Virginia starting in February to relieve overcrowding, a Department of Corrections spokeswoman said yesterday.

Housing inmates elsewhere will be cheaper than housing them in one of Pennsylvania's medium-security prisons, but spokeswoman Sue McNaughton said prisoners aren't being farmed out to save money.
