Summary

Union membership in Pennsylvania dropped last year to 15 percent of all wage and salary workers, down from 15.4 percent in 2008, the Bureau of Labor Statistics said Wednesday.

There were 782,000 union card-carrying members in the state in 2009, a 7.6 percent decrease from 847,000 in 2008. Another 62,000 employees in 2009 were union members on their main job, or were covered by employee association or contract, while not being union members themselves.
