Summary


The Penguins have elected to file for salary arbitration with goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury, which means Fleury cannot become a restricted free agent July 1 and therefore cannot receive offer sheets from other teams.

The NHL's arbitration hearings take place from July 20 to Aug. 4. The sides will continue to negotiate a long-term contract in the meantime. If they go to arbitration, a judge would render a one- or two-year award after hearing arguments from both sides. Fleury would get to choose the length.
