The head of Pittsburgh's firefighters union warned city leaders Friday that the battle over pension funding could harm a proposed merger with the Wilkinsburg fire department.

"Now it appears that with two branches of government not willing to compromise on each other's plans in the interest of the city of Pittsburgh, we have now involved the borough of Wilkinsburg," Joe King, president of Pittsburgh Fire Fighters Local No. 1, wrote in a letter to Mayor Luke Ravenstahl and Council President Darlene Harris.
