Summary
Chuck Kinder, the director of the creative-writing program at the University of Pittsburgh, is by any measure one of Pittsburgh's more colorful personalities. Born and raised in West Virginia, he graduated from West Virginia University. Then he headed west to California and Stanford University, where he befriended an illustrious group of writers that included Scott Turow, Richard Ford, Tobias Wolff, April Smith, William Kittredge and especially Raymond Carver, whom he wrote about in his roman a clef novel, "Honeymooners."
At Pitt, Kinder taught Pulitzer Prize-winning writer Michael Chabon. Chabon's "Wonder Boys" included a character named Grady Tripp, played by Michael Douglas in the film, and by Kinder in real life.See the full content of this document
