Summary
Dr. Maria Simbra has the perfect background for a medical reporter: She started her career as a neurologist, though she no longer sees patients. Now, Simbra is an Emmy Award-winning medical journalist for KDKA-TV, where she started working in 2002. Simbra earned her medical degree from the University of Pittsburgh, and a master's degree in journalism and mass communications from Point Park University. She has served on the board of directors for the Association of Health Care Journalists, and the National Association of Medical Communicators, where she is vice president. Simbra lives in the western suburbs with her husband -- Dr. Jeffrey Burket, an infectious disease physician -- and their 1-year-old daughter, Gigi. She took some time out of her television schedule to take the Trib's Personality Test.
