Summary
Orchids -- an exotic flower favorite that come in a rainbow of colors -- and tiny bonsai trees will tempt winter-weary guests at Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens at a new show opening Friday. The annual Orchid and Tropical Bonsai Show spotlights some of the most picturesque displays in the Oakland conservatory's permanent collection, officials say. At the show, gardeners will get inspiration and tips on growing orchids and the miniature, potted trees at their own homes.
"The Orchid and Tropical Bonsai Show may not be our most talked about or highly attended annual show, but the botanical wonders it brings to the forefront are well worth a second look," said Richard Piacentini, Phipps executive director, in a written statement. "The breathtaking and unusual specimens we have in both collections are prime examples of the profound inspiration to be found in nature, and we hope that our guests will be moved by what they see and learn to cultivate some beauty in their own homes."See the full content of this document
