Summary
Pitt is one of the top-ranked teams in the nation, but it wasn't reflected in the attendance Sunday, when the Panthers faced Western Michigan. There was an announced crowd of 1,769 at 5,000-seat Christl Arena, by far the smallest number to see a Pitt game in many years. The game was an early start (noon), and a 3:30 p.m. game between the Army women and No. 7 Ohio State was the feature game. The women's game drew a crowd at least twice as big as the Pitt game, with many cadets in attendance. Ohio State, the No. 7-ranked women's basketball team in the nation, defeated host Army, 77-41. Freshman center Andrea Walker, a West Allegheny graduate, had six points for the Buckeyes.
