Pittsburgh: Pfa Ignored in Cop Reinstatment

Summary


An attorney for the city of Pittsburgh told state Commonwealth Court on Tuesday that an arbitration panel should be forced to consider a protection-from-abuse order in deciding whether Sgt. Eugene Hlavac should be fired.

Hlavac, 44, was reinstated to the force in April after being fired nearly two years ago under the city's zero-tolerance policy on domestic violence. A judge acquitted Hlavac of assaulting the mother of his child, and an arbitration panel voted 2-1 to give him his job back.
