Summary
I write in favor of state Rep. Mike Turzai's legislation to take Pennsylvania out of the wine and spirits business. The antiquated state store system has kept us from having the pricing and selection we deserve as Pennsylvania residents.
Rep. Turzai's proposal removes the current 30-percent automatic markup and the 18-percent 1936 Johnstown Flood Tax (which fully funded Johnstown relief by 1942) from the cost. The 6-percent sales tax would be paid only by the final retail customer, not by bars, clubs and restaurants. These taxes would be replaced by a "gallonage" tax already in place in more than half the states.See the full content of this document
