A state law enacted five years ago this week helped to give a half-dozen children in the area a better chance for happy lives, proponents of the Newborn Protection Act said yesterday at a Downtown news conference.
"In the last six months, there have been two infants brought to the emergency room at Magee because of this legislation," said Pam Dodge, director of ambulatory care at Magee-Womens Hospital in Oakland.
