Utilities may be forced to close about 11 percent of the nation's coal-fired plant fleet for electricity generation amid low natural gas prices and government regulations. Utilities will probably have to shelve about 36 gigawatts of generation, Marie Fagan, senior director of Americas gas and power at IHS Cera, said at a conference in St. Petersburg, Fla.
